Art Special

In Art we will study the elements of art and the principles of design, as well as the history of art. Students will produce art projects that are based on the various AKS objectives appropriate with each grade level in Kindergarten through Fifth grade. As part of our enrichment, we will also learn to develop, judge, and communicate our feelings about art in a positive manner while forming our own opinions.

Music Special

The Music Special class is comprised of lessons that cover the basic elements of music: duration, pitch, form, timbre, expressive qualities, notation, style and creative skills. The classes focus on blending these elements with the Academic Knowledge & Skills (AKS). Students learn by participating in a fun and challenging environment that incorporates the rich international resources of our community.

Physical Education

This special is action packed and full of activity! Our goal in P.E. is to get all kids moving and to learn the benefits of a healthy and physically fit body. We focus on making exercising fun and why we should be active every day!
We also focus on learning skills such as throwing and catching, striking, volleying, kicking, movement skills, balancing and dance. Our younger grades are exploring the many different ways to move their bodies, while our older grades participate in more group activities. How to work together, cooperate, and help each other are also part of our focus in physical education.

Science Special

Science Specials class is a learning environment where students in grades K-5 receive additional science instruction for a 3 day rotation. Students concentrate on science process skills such as observing, inferring, classifying, ordering, predicting, collecting data, and communicating their ideas through the Scientific Method. Students use their power of observation and knowledge of the Scientific Method to conduct lab experiments and solve real-life problems. Each rotation is based on the science AKS for each grade level and follows their instructional calendar.

Technology Special

Technology Special is a time for student to work individually on computers. Students get time to use educational software as well as practice their keyboarding skills. The upper grades learn basic research skills and also learn how to safely use the internet here at school. This year I am looking forward to trying new things such as setting the children up with email pals and teaching them how to create presentations on their computers. That concepts and skills that we cover are based on grade level AKS and Technology Standards. I am looking forward to watching our student get excited about technology and develop their computer skills.
