A school
clinic is a service provided for our children by a highly qualified
clinic worker. First aid is provided to children who suffer injuries
or become ill at school. The clinic keeps no medication, including
aspirin, on hand to give to students. We will clean cuts and scrapes
and apply bandages as needed. Anything requiring further care will
be referred to the parent. This includes removal of splinters and
teeth.
Parents
will be called and students sent home if they are too sick to remain
at school. A child having a temperature of 100 degrees or more will
need to be picked up from school. Should an emergency situation
arise in which your child needs immediate medical attention and
we are unable to contact anyone, we will call "911", and
your child will be taken to the emergency room.
If
it is determined at school that a child has head lice, the parent
must pick up the child. Treatment with a special shampoo and removal
of all nits is required before the child can return to school. Parents
are asked to send the box top from the shampoo to the school clinic
upon the child's return.
Medication
can only be given with a completed medication form on file. This
includes over-the-counter medication or a doctor's prescription.
Medication forms are available in the clinic. Students are not permitted
to carry medication of any kind to school on their person or in
their backpacks. Parents must transport all medication, prescription
or over-the-counter, to school.
Medicine
is not to be kept in a student's desk. All medicine must be taken
to the clinic. Medicine will be administered in the clinic. The
teacher will not be held responsible for medication.
Each
child will be given a Clinic Information Card to be completed by
the parent or guardian and then returned to the school. This will
be kept on file in the clinic. It is very important that you have
at least one name and number of someone who can be contacted in
case of any emergency. It is the parents' responsibility to notify
the clinic if any of the telephone numbers change during the course
of the school year. The school will not be responsible in cases
where a parent cannot be reached because of incorrect or invalid
telephone numbers provided by parents.
